Fifth visit

During this visit we brought the first final handle prototype. This we tested together with placement of the button and use of the overal product

Goals for the fourth visit:

  • See any errors for the handle design

The handle turned out to be very suitable. The participant liked the softness and shape of it and we were able to find the right placement on the desk. However, two problems arose:

The participant will get a tablet on his desk and it needs to be checked whether our product won't be in the way of the tablet. This will however not be done before the deadline of the website. We do have two options for when there would form a problem with placing. The clamp could instead of sliding onto the railing on the desk would be split in two and then placed around it. The use will be shown in the concept movie as well.

The second problem were to do with his headphones.

We asked the participant if he had Bluetooth earphones and he had them. But the issue we only found out during this visit was that the headphones are standardly connected to his workcomputer and they have never been connected to his phone. The idea at first was to play the relaxing sound on his headphones. This created a new difficulty because switching with Bluetooth devices can be a very big hassle, especially if you have difficulties operating these devices.

So we had to reconsider our options. The first and obvious solution would be for him to switch his earphone every time he wants to use them for presenting. However, switching the Bluetooth connection every time will cost a lot of time and remembering to switch them. This is too much to ask from the participant. The other options are discussed below.

  1. There are existing earphones that can be connected to multiple devices without having to switch the connections. However, this is very expensive(ranging from 100 to 230 euro) and it therefor not worth it.

  2. He could simply buy new normal wireless earphones and connect this standard to his phone, so every time he wants to use them, they will connect automatically. But with this idea, he will need to buy new earphones, and these will cost depending ranging from €25 to €100 depending on quality.

  3. He could also go for cheap wired earphones, so this way the costs won't be that high and he will never have the problem that comes with Bluetooth. The only problem is, is that his phone does not have a headphone jack and he must therefor buy a separate dongle for that or just buy one that has usb-c instead of the typical 3.5 mm headphone connector. Both ways will add to the price and making it a less economical option. Besides this, wired earphones can be harder to hide and thereby more visible for the people attending the lesson. Also the wire might be in the way when moving his arms.

  4. The last option is to place a speaker. This however forms the problem that the audience can hear all the voice recordings as well, which is taking away the focus of the presentation.

So for this problem, the best solution will be to use his existing pair of earphones and switch every time he wants to use them or buy new ones. But this would depend on the participant’s preferences.
